Summer in the UK, while a welcome respite from the long winter, can bring its own set of challenges for our furry friends.

As temperatures rise, keeping your dog cool becomes a top priority. Here are some tips to ensure your canine companion stays happy and healthy throughout the sunny season:

Hydration is Key: Fresh, cool water should be readily available at all times, both indoors and outdoors.  Carry a portable water bowl and water on walks, especially if it’s a hot day and consider adding ice cubes to their water bowl to keep it refreshingly cold.

Adjust Walk Times: Avoid midday walks when the sun is at its strongest. Instead, take your dog out for early morning or evening strolls when the temperatures are cooler and choose shady routes like parks or woodlands.

Pay close attention to the pavement temperature. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

Cooling down at home: Create cool havens. This could be a bathroom with cool tiles, a shaded area with a fan, or a damp towel to lie on. Cooling mats designed for pets can also provide relief.

Keep curtains or blinds closed during the hottest part of the day to maintain a cooler indoor temperature.
